Congratulations to GNA Chairman Frank Shimizu for his Imperial Decoration Conferment by the Japan Guam Consulate Office and the MOFA Japan office!  He was bestowed with The Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays Decoration for his contribution to enhancing the welfare of the Japanese American community in the United States and promoting friendly relations between Japan and the United States.

Board Chairman Frank S.N. Shimizu Delivers Welcome Remarks


Guam Nikkei Association Board Chairman Frank S.N. Shimizu delivered the welcome remarks during the Guam Nikkei Association's panel discussion on A Borrowed Land, a groundbreaking publication by Peter R. Onedera that documents the experiences of Japanese Issei and Nisei in Guam during World War II. Held on March 29, 2025 at the Central Community Arts Center in Sinajana, the event was a collaboration with NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation as part of its coverage of the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII.

Celebrating 50 Years of Friendship: Japan and Guam Strengthen Ties

The Consulate-General of Japan commemorated 50 years of enduring friendship and cooperation with Guam during a special reception held Wednesday evening at Hotel Nikko Guam. Members of the Guam Nikkei Association also participated in the event, joining dignitaries and community leaders in honoring the shared history and strong ties between Japan and Guam.  Enjoy the following snapshots!

PRESS RELEASE: GUAM NIKKEI APPRECIATION NIGHT



A Guam Nikkei Appreciation Night sponsored by the Guam Nikkei Association will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 4pm to 8pm at the GCC Multi-Purpose Auditorium.  Chicken karaage, varieties of sushi, ramen bowls and chicken yakitori are being prepared by the GCC Culinary class with table displays of Chamorro-Japanese and Guamanian families spread throughout the auditorium festooned in Japanese decorations, photographs and memorabilia.  Members of the association with assistance of staff from the Japan Consulate Office will also be attired in kimonos, yucatas, hapi coats and other accessories.  Tickets are on sale in Nikkei Dollar booklets starting at $1 per coupon by members of the association or from project chair David Okada who can be contacted at 688-6627 or at his e-mail at dsokada@uguam.uog.edu.  A membership drive for those wishing to join the association and who are supporters or have Japanese ancestry will also take place at the event.  For further information, please contact Peter R.
